NYX Powder Blush

I purchased my NYX Powder Blushes from www.cherryculture.com for $4.50 a piece, minus S&H. In Canada, the only places (I've found...) that you can buy NYX Cosmetics in-store is at Rexall or Save-On Foods. So I ordered two blushes from the line, Peach and Taupe. I really wanted Cinnamon too, but it was sold out. NYX has about 27 shades in their Powder Blush collection, with a wide range of colors and finishes. Each compact holds 0.2 oz (6.4 g) of product.

This is the first time I've ever tried NYX blushes, but I've wanted to forever. The cases are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. The compacts are made of plastic with a clear lid, so you can see the shade of blush inside. The sleek black packaging is elegant, but the quality of the cases aren't anything spectacular. They don't feel flimsy, but they certainly aren't as sturdy as MAC compacts are. The product details are located on the bottom of the blush.

As far as I know, you can depot the blushes for use in a bigger palette (such as a Z-palette - get them here or here), though I've never personally tried to depot them. I'm sure there are several YouTube videos on how to do this, if you're interested. Here's one video I found, but there's loads more... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o23Q2sheAFI

Peach is a matte pinked peach shade.

Holla!! I still have China Glaze's Flip Flop Fantasy on my nailses.

Taupe is a matte brown grey shade. For me, this appears more 'brown' than it does grey or even taupe. I picked this shade up because I'd heard countless fair-skinned-fellows rave about how great this was as a contour for pale skin-tones. For those with darker complexions, this could be a very passable and gorgeous looking blush.

Both shades are incredibly pigmented. Taupe is more pigmented in one swatch than Peach, but both are equally buildable.

The powders themselves feel almost creamy in texture, and blend effortlessly into the skin. They're so smooth and luxurious on the skin... A little bit on my fair skin goes a long way, so I have to be careful not to be too heavy handed in my application. These blushes don't kick up a lot of powder when you put your brush in, which is nice. I'm not a huge fan of wasting good products... no matter how cheap they were. Despite their matte texture, they don't apply chalky or patchy.

I love Peach because it's like... a perfect shade of blush for me, without the shimmer or glitter. It's so hard to find decent matte blushes with affordable price tags, but NYX seems to have this down to an art. It's pigmented enough that it shows up on my skin, but light enough that it looks mostly natural, and gives me a healthy looking glow. Yet, I do have to be careful that I'm not heavy handed in my application - a little bit of this goes a long way... and it's easy to get carried away.

Taupe is fantastic too, because it's an excellent contour shade. I'm sort of sick-and-tired of using matte bronzer as contour, so this is a fantastic alternative. It creates more of a 'shaded' effect, and looks infinitely more natural (to me) than bronzer does. Getting too heavy handed with this powder however, will give me a 'muddy' look to my cheeks, which is neither attractive nor ideal. So I have to make sure that I use it sparingly, especially considering how pigmented it is.

Overall, I'm really impressed with these blushes. I'm not a blush fiend by any stretch of the word, but I do have some favorites in my collection that I use on occasion. I think that for the price, you can't go wrong with trying some of these babies out. Even if you hate it, you're not out that much money. The colors are fantastic, and you can find many blog posts online that show swatches of the various shades, so you don't have to buy these blushes blindly.

I'm still holding out for Cinnamon, and even though it's crazy pigmented, I just have a 'thing' for orange shades on my cheeks... I definitely think I'll be purchasing it when I get an opportunity. Haha. Maybe I'm turning into a blush fiend....

Overall 5 out of 5 stars.
